Sailor Fude de Mannen Fountain Pen – Bamboo Green, 55 Degree

The Fude de Mannen is a fountain pen with a genuinely different proposition from anything else in the category. Its name is a play on words in Japanese, combining fude (brush pen) and mannen (fountain pen), and in certain regional accents it can be read as "this is a brush pen" — a description that captures the pen's character precisely. The nib is bent upward at a 55-degree angle, a steeper curve than the 40-degree Navy Blue version that makes the line variation even more immediate and expressive. Hold the pen upright for a fine, precise line; tilt it toward the horizontal and the belly of the nib opens into a broad, ink-rich stroke. The 55-degree nib tends to run wetter and more generously than the 40-degree, and the line variation it produces is more dramatic, making it particularly well suited to expressive lettering, sketching, and illustration.

The Bamboo Green body is a soft, muted green with gold-toned trim and a roll-stop on the cap that prevents the pen from rolling off the desk. At a more compact 14.4 cm closed than its Navy Blue sibling, it is a shorter pen that posts comfortably for a well-balanced full writing length. The pen accepts standard Sailor short cartridges and comes with one black ink cartridge included. A Sailor converter is available separately for bottled ink use.
