The Mitsubishi uni 9800 is a pencil with a long-standing reputation as Japan's go-to general writing pencil — used in schools, offices, and animation studios with equal comfort for decades. The matured micro graphite lead is smooth and dense, producing a consistent mark that writes more softly than comparable grades from other manufacturers — a quality that carries through even into the harder grades. The deep forest green lacquer barrel with gold foil grade stamping is one of the most immediately recognisable pencil designs in the Japanese market, and one that has barely changed since the pencil's introduction.

The 2H is the hardest grade available in the 9800 range, and the one that suits precision work most naturally — technical drawing, drafting, fine annotation, and any task where a sharp, controlled line needs to stay where it is put without smudging or softening under the hand. The lead is hard enough to hold a fine point through extended work without constant resharpening, while the 9800's characteristic smoothness keeps it from scratching or digging into the paper surface the way some hard leads do.
