The uni-ball ZENTO Standard is Mitsubishi's introduction of a genuinely new ink technology to everyday pen design. At the centre of it is ZENTO ink — a water-based pigment ink formulated with a POA surfactant that acts as a molecular cushion between the writing ball and the paper. The result is a friction reduction of approximately 40% compared to conventional rollerball pens, and a writing feel that is noticeably softer and smoother without sacrificing the precision of a fine 0.5 mm tip.
The ink's attracting particles draw together as they hit the page, minimising bleed-through and feathering for clean, crisp lines even on standard paper. Because it is pigment-based, the line is rich and high-contrast, with good resistance to water and light once dry — a step up from most dye-based gel and rollerball inks. It dries quickly enough to be friendly to left-handers.
The Standard model pairs this ink with a clean, minimalist body made from recycled resin, with a long rubber grip that extends well up the barrel for a comfortable, stable hold during longer writing sessions. The barrel colour matches the ink colour for easy identification at a glance. Subtle typography embossing adds a quiet, refined touch to the overall silhouette.
