The MD Notebook is one of those objects that earns its reputation quietly. There is no hard cover, no branding beyond a small embossed mark, and no decorative finish — just the MD Paper itself, front and centre, wrapped in a paraffin paper band and bound with an exposed cheesecloth spine that makes no attempt to hide how it was made. Midori has been refining this paper since 1960, and the result is something that is immediately noticeable the first time a pen touches it: smooth, responsive, and genuinely resistant to feathering and bleed-through across a wide range of writing instruments, from pencils and ballpoints to gel pens and fountain pens.
The dot grid ruling is 5mm spacing — fine enough to guide handwriting and layout without imposing structure on every stroke. The dots are printed in a soft, unobtrusive tone that recedes as soon as ink hits the page. The thread-stitched binding opens completely flat at 180 degrees with no resistance at the centre spread, and the A6 format slips easily into a jacket pocket or the front slot of almost any bag. A ribbon bookmark, index stickers, and a paraffin paper protective wrap are included.
