The MD Notebook is one of those objects that earns its reputation quietly. There is no hard cover, no branding beyond a small embossed mark, and no decorative finish — just the MD Paper itself, front and centre, wrapped in a glassine paper band and bound with an exposed mull spine that makes no attempt to hide how it was made. Midori has been refining this paper since 1960, and the result is something that is immediately noticeable the first time a pen touches it: smooth, responsive, and genuinely resistant to feathering and bleed-through across a wide range of writing instruments.
The A7 is the smallest and most pocketable size in the MD Notebook range — at 74 × 105 mm, it fits in a trouser pocket, a shirt pocket, or the palm of the hand, and can be folded back on itself for comfortable one-handed writing. The 5mm dot grid is printed in a soft, unobtrusive tone that recedes as soon as ink hits the page, giving just enough structure for neat handwriting and small diagrams without restricting the page. The thread binding opens completely flat at 180 degrees with no resistance at the centre of the spread. A ribbon bookmark and index sticker are included, and the glassine paper wrap can be kept on or removed entirely.
