The Kokuyo HAKO-AKE is one of those tools that earns its place on the desk by solving a problem you did not realise was annoying you until it was gone. It is a compact, pocket-sized tool that switches between scissors mode and cutter mode with a single sliding motion, one-handed, without removing any cap or cover. In cutter mode, a 3mm titanium blade extends for opening cardboard boxes cleanly without cutting too deeply into the contents. In scissors mode, the blades open fully for snipping tape, PP bands, clothing tags, string, and similar everyday tasks. A built-in guide rail on the front of the casing can be slid along the edge of a cardboard box for a straight, controlled cut every time.
The titanium blade resists corrosion and sticky residue better than standard stainless steel, and small ridges on the inside of both scissor blades reduce tape adhesion further. The orange body is compact at 11.3 cm with the blade retracted and has a strap hole at the top for hanging from a hook, a bag, or a keyring — and the colour makes it considerably harder to lose in a drawer or bag than most cutting tools.
