"Lucky" is Field Notes' Spring 2026 quarterly edition — a tribute to the American penny, a coin with over two centuries of history that the U.S. Treasury officially stopped minting in late 2025. Each 3-pack comes in one of three cover colours drawn from the distinct shades copper takes on over time: the warm orangeish-pink "Rosewood," the well-worn "Mocha," and the oxidized green "Mint." All three are printed on Mohawk Mosaic 100 lb cover stock and stamped with metallic copper foil, giving them a rich, tactile finish that genuinely earns the penny comparison.
The backs of each book are embossed with one of three historic penny obverse designs — wheat stalks, the Lincoln Memorial, or the Great Seal — making each book in the pack distinct. Inside, 48 pages of Domtar Cougar Natural 60 lb paper are ruled in copper with faint mint-coloured ledger columns running vertically down each page. The columns are subtle enough to ignore for regular writing, but useful for lists, tallies, or tracking. Copper staples complete the look, tying every detail back to the edition's theme.
The backing card includes a space to keep your own lucky penny — whether a shiny example from 2025's final batch or one found face-up on the sidewalk years ago. It is a small, considered touch that makes this a genuinely collectible edition.
