The Explore America series is Field Notes' broadening of the territory first mapped by the National Parks run — expanding beyond designated parks to include monuments, forests, coastlines, and trail networks that define American outdoor life just as much. The Northern California 3-Pack is the first release in the series and arrives with strong credentials: the cover art continues Field Notes' collaboration with the artists of The Fifty-Nine Parks Print Series, and the roster this time includes Shepard Fairey — the artist behind the Obama "Hope" poster and the OBEY campaign — whose illustration of the Big Sur Coast anchors the pack. Glenn Thomas contributes Muir Woods National Monument, and Chris Turnham covers Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Three distinct landscapes, three distinct artists, one cohesive set.
Each memo book is built to Field Notes' usual production standards — Mohawk Via Vellum 100 lb cover stock printed with soy-based inks on a six-colour offset press, Domtar Lynx Opaque Ultra 60 lb interior paper with a dot-graph grid at 4.7mm spacing, saddle-stitched and rounded to a 3/8" radius. The result is a set that works as well in the field as it does on the shelf.
